just thinking aloud in order to give an example, like a Nintendo Entertainment System (or the Japanese original equivalent FamilyCom)? Not that I personally wanted one back then.

It’s an eternal pity that no one wants to be a jerk – they are always up-to-date

Being retired is not the same as being obsolete.

Not me, I wanted to be a garbage man. We still have someone drive the truck and use the robotic arm, so not quite obsolete yet.

I remember reading an article in the 1960s. The author stated that refrigeration and welding would be obsolete. Was he ever wrong.

Necessity may be the mother of invention, but the father is lazy. Advancement comes from wanting less work. Sperm donor is a lot less work than father, & it creates law enforcement jobs.

I wanted to be an astronaut in the days when all you needed to be was a brave, fighter pilot. Now one Ph.D. is hardly enough. :)

Or, as I told my students when they asked how (whatever) was relevant, I’d tell them neither they nor I had any idea what was going to be relevant in their adult lives.

If you want to talk about being obsolete, I miss the good old days when I could go to Blockbuster Video.
