I think you should have kept ignoring her, Adam.

Why, there IS a summer holiday for exchanging gifts! It takes place on August 12th. What is it? Why, it’s MY BIRTHDAY! Yes, if you can’t send a gift to me, then exchange amongst yourselves! Or better yet, please make a donation to Angel Gowns of WNY.

Okay, I am 100 percent behind the idea, but the name makes me want to take a special holiday shower.

I’m a traditionalist. Christmas in July is good enough for me.

In the Wicca religion there IS a mid summer holiday “Lammas” also called “Lughnasadh” (July 31st – August 1st) celebrating the first harvest

I think we should make it secular. Call it Sweativus.

I’m thinking that name might be a little off-putting to some.

When I was a kid my brother and I decided we needed a Christmas in July. My parents said we could have one if we exchanged things we already had. Toys that we didn’t want any more we could give to the other kid. We decorated a philodendron with Christmas ornaments, wrapped up our presents, and had Christmas in July. To our delight my parents threw in a couple of new toys that we unwrapped. It’s one of my favorite childhood memories.

The stores will thank you this idea. Like they need another idea to have a sale.

The only gifts given on such a holiday should involve squirt guns and water balloons – the gift of wet relief from the heat.

Many years ago our family created PODWE (MLB’s Post-Opening Day Weekend) and deemed it a gift-giving holiday.

Adam should mention Fathers Day. It’s after Memorial Day and after school lets out so it’s “summer” even if it’s a week or so before the summer solstice.
