At least Grandma thought she was cute. On a side note, I couldn’t read Agnes all last week…too disgusting!

    Grandma’s just teasing!Agnes knows she’s loved…. and I love Grandma’s sense of humor.

Even if Agnes is a little uncertain now and then about exactly when her leg is being pulled, she’ll grow up stronger and funnier.I oughta know.

BTW you guys ever seen “Roseanne?”

Really, who needs sex education when you’ve got a grandmother like this one?-“Grandma, where’d I come from?”“K-Mart.”-Clean up on Aisle 6.Blue Light Special in the Agnes Section.

I too enjoy Granny and her sense of humor.I guess this is as close to a background story as we’ll ever get as to how Agnes came to be with Granny. The gas grill fairy?

The feet do disqualify Agnes from being mistaken for a opossum. And has anyone ever seen a cute opossum?

I remember an old Dick van Dyke show where Richie askes where he came from. Just as Laura and Rob are reaching for the Doctor Spock book, Richie says “David says he came from Cleveland.”

Yeah… Everyone lighten up: It’s s’posed to be funny. My girlfriend had a Grama like that (secretly, we all wanted her to adopt us.)

get off granny’s a$$ if you can’t poke fun at your own family who can you have fun with? all you haters must have grown up in miserable, humorless households to have such a lack thereof. besides it’s a friggin comic numnuts, NOT REAl!

@ pacopuddy – There also was a Calvin strip where his Dad tells him he was “a blue light special at K-Mart. Almost as good as Sears but a whole lot cheaper”.

@ wroady – You might take a dose of your own medicine and lighten up a bit too.

I agree about lightening up (well, of course)… I tell my oldest that she came from Target on sale and my youngest that she came from Costco. They think it’s funny and their “self-esteem” isn’t damaged.

Glad some people can laugh at it!

Yeah, Roseanne’s sitcom kids’ questions were almost always answered this way, so were Calvin’s, and so were mine… I didn’t always find it funny when I was 5 but understood by Agnes’ age….and now I know how to take a joke without coming unglued. It doesn’t mean the kids are unloved.. it can mean a lot of things, including “This subject is too deep for an answer right now” “Look it up in the dictionary”or “What a silly question.”In fact my Dad used to say “Stupid question; stupid answer.” But he was tougher than Granny.

Lightenup, the prices may be similar but Costco has a much better return policy if she doesn’t turn out OK ….

Susan N…. sigh… you never come back when everyone explains it to you…so I’ll try not to waste my breath reiterating that in most states no money is paid to relatives taking in family members.Grandma keeps Agnes cos she loves her. And Agnes knows. And it keeps Grandma very poor…. which is why socks for Christmas, but that’s also become a standing joke between them.Re-read the Christmas motel arc.….sigh…. wasted breath.

My husband would say, yes, most defiantly, opossums are cute when little. He found one that had lost it’s mother, and he took it home and raised it, along with his cat, dog, and duck. All as indoor pets. He said the opossum was the cleanest animal he ever had. Not sure, but I think he said it lived 10 years or so.

At least Gramma didn’t give that old saw: “You came from a fine firm — De Pinnas”

Redkaycei Repoc “And Calvin was a blue Light Special… just saying…..”-I knew of a lady who was afraid to have children because her husband reminded her of Calvin’s father. she was afraid their children would turn out Calvins.-One of my favorites (among many) was the time Calvin said something which spurred his mother to say, “I hope you have a child just like yourself.”-To which Calvin responded, “Grandma said she used to wish the same thing for you, that you would have a child just like me.” That was interesting because it implied his mother, not his father, was just like him at that age.
