    CSX had replaced quite a bit of rail near me and they were putting out the old pieces in a pile nearby. It was scrap metal to sell later I guess. The plates, the railroad spikes, short chunks of rail itself. They were moving from a piece of equipment off to the side of the tracks using a big electromagnet. I stopped and watched for a while. That would be fun to operate.
