Makes sense to me. Special occasions cal for special pucnhes besides a punch recipe serves a lot of people. How long would it take to finish up the recipe before it goes bad. Correction – it would disappear befor it went bad.
Why does salad that is made in a restaurant taste better than the ones I make at home? It isn’t always just the dressing (although that is part of it). Fresher ingredients? Never have figured that out. Maybe because I didn’t have to make it?
Probably because there’s no incentive to leave some for the other guests. The first glass of punch is always the best. The fourteenth glass – not so much. :)
It does seem to be a gathering thing. You’d hate for the dry ice effect to go fully unappreciated. Placing bets on who will spike the bowl. (Hint: they’re young and saw it in a movie.)
Linguistic trivia – “punch” comes from the Hindi word “panch” meaning “five”. Originally a drink from India with five elements to it. It made its way to Britain during the Empire.

Don’t try to understand it, Dan. Just go along with it.

It’s true! Just like wine doesn’t taste as good in a coffee mug. I’ll try to come up with a better Punch line.
