In my fantasy novel, Prophecy of Honor, people in debt with no hope of paying were put into slavery (often voluntarily) for a specific period of time and wages assigned to their work to pay off the debt. PofH (see my icon) will be re-published in December.

I’m surprised he paid them, but for a certain degree of payback, everyone got paid back except Chalkie.

Look at it this way, Andy, your net worth is now zero, where before it was a negative number.

Serves Andy right. Even when he has money, he never intends to pay back what he owes unless he is forced to do that.

The average person is in debt (house, car, appliances, credit cards), it is a way of life for many people. Very few seem to save up before purchasing something. We’ve been brainwashed into instant gratification. Think of the billions in interest paid to the wealthy by the poor; the poorer you are the higher the interest because you are less likely to be able to make your payments.

I’d say Andy deserved this because he very likely had no intention of repaying any of those people.
