A nice reference to the days when Andy was rarely seen without a cigaretted hanging from his lip.

Reg Smythe erased the the cigarette when he gave up smoking in real life.

Dole money returns to the Government: Each dollar turns over 7 times in the community as it is spent in various sources/ways. And each source taxed and each source enjoys the income as it is circulated/spent 7 times and cycle repeated over and over. Helping support local Government on down to Andy Capp himself. Win Win for all. helping and sharing. Not all Dole money goes to folks like Andy but to truly needy sick and deserving. Don’t spite one because there but by the blessing of Lord Jesus Go I.

Yes he goes to the employment office, but when did he ever pretend he wanted a job.

If you were a decent human Flo and a good wife, you would tell him to get to a job or stop by the court and file for divorce.

Andy quit smoking in 1983 when cartoonist Reg Smythe did. He said that if he couldn’t enjoy a smoke then neither could Andy.

I wonder if Andy gave up smoking for his health, or if he figured out how many extra pints a week he could buy with the extra money?

I’ve had former employees, put us down as a new job lead when they were unemployed. I think they had to do 3 applications a week to get their unemployment.

Aside from Reg Smythe giving up smoking himself, I don’t really understand the point of Andy quitting smoking. Even without cigarettes, he’s not exactly a good role model. (Of course, that’s what makes him so funny.)
