Good morning early birds and nighty owls And creatures emitting disgruntled growls

Though he struck him on the head I don’t think that sonny boy is dead His mind is soft but his skull is thick He’ll shake off the blow from that brick So by now Sandy should be raising Cain Loud enough to drive Daddy insane Roused he is from his sleep He’ll shout a curse at that little bleep With the police and guards in tow He will soon put a stop to papa’s show But still over Annie we must fret As she meets her latest threat.

    Great lyrics again, Floyd.

The good news is the last Annie is June 13, a month from today, so there was time to wrap up this story. The bad news is it won’t be wrapped up: looks like Annie’s final kidnapping will be to someone who cares little about Oliver’s war bucks and she’ll just vanish without a trace. Supposedly the story is going to continue somewhere, sometime, somehow… but we’re short on specifics - who knows how long the cliffhanger will get drawn out?

June 13, The Final Cliffhanger: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/comic-riffs/2010/05/comicfarewelllittleorphana.html?wprss=comic-riffs

So, online or not? Does this mean no Asp or Punjab? Gone for good? Will Annie even appear in the final strip?

I’m aghast! TMS keeps the dreck called ‘Dick Tracy’ on board, yet gets rid of ‘Annie’ which has consistant drawing, and an actual plot (GASP!) Oh Sydney, will you be ticked off when you get back….

Sorry to hear about the cancellation – but “seeking a Web presence” doesn’t inspire optimism. Maybe one or both creators wanted to move on and the syndicate decided not to replace – Maeder’s been at it for a while now – but it’s just a guess.

Well, Tribune-Media has “decided” Annie has to go - the last strip is June 13th, yet they did hint that Annie will possibly, like some other comics, continue online. I enjoy reading Annie here and I enjoy reading all of your reader postings. When growing up, we stayed up late to get the very early edition of the Sunday NY Daily News. Why? Because the Sunday comics were the best. Today, sadly, that is for the most part, not so. Too much lame nonsense, too many clones, not much in adventure or a continuing basis. What I have enjoyed over the years is that Annie was not - and is not - a politically correct” strip and it allows the reader to try to work and solve the plot line. But dropping “Annie” also points to the print news media in sharp decline overall - want proof? Hey, here we are talking/posting to each other online.

Still here, surprisingly. This really is disappointing news though not really shocking. It’s the way of things. Unless I missed it loyal readers like us were not given the chance to voice our disapproval. We really don’t matter!

    Peace.

Ooh, a hug. Way to entice.

♪The sun won’t come out, June 13’s tomorrow. Bet your bottom dollar they’ll be sorrow, come that day. We’ll be stuck with days that are gray and lonely. So we’ll just stick out our tongues, and grimmace, and say, screw you newspaper people, you took our Annie away.♫

If I was drawing Annie I would end with the last strip showing an 86 year old lady closing a photo album book and saying “And that is the end” The ghost of Daddy appears and he says.”Time to come home Annie.”
