Transcript:
Janis: Three squash plants will be enough! Arlo: That's not worth the trouble! Can't we plant more? Janis: We go through this every spring! Janis: How many do you think we should plant? Arlo: At least forty. Janis: Forty?! Arlo: She falls for that old gambit every spring!

He has to be joking, one summer squash is all you need, if you don’t want to join the crowd trying to give the huge surplus away.

Why do Vermonters lock their cars in the summer? To prevent people from stuffing them with zucchini.

I have never tasted squash before, I’ve only had zucchini once or twice.

I think he’s just messing with her to get a reaction.

I love the taste of yellow crookneck, especially if punched up with a little onion and fried in butter. Zucchini is what’s tasteless, IMO.

Spaghetti Squash!

Zucchini, red bell peppers, and snow peas. Or yellow squash, green bell peppers, and snow peas. A little soy sauce, a little butter, a little seltzer..no, that’s something else. But they are good!

Oh, but home grown tomatoes are the BEST!

When we’ve had a couple of squash plants, DH has named them squashzilla. We had more squash than we could eat or freeze. One time I had 30 spaghetti squashes piled up in the kitchen to process.

We grew yellow crook neck squash and butternut squash together one year, and had a volunteer butternut squash with a crooked neck two foot long the next year. Strange looking, but tasted alright.

try “Zephyr” variety; yellow body, green on 1/3 of big end; very “nutty”, even spicy flavour!!! grows well here in new england!

Years ago when I was a kid, we had a very mild October and November (no snow or freezing), well past when we cleared out the garden and had already canned, pickled, or froze everything for the winter. I was out in the garden and noticed a growth in the carrot patch. Tried to pull it out to no avail and ended up using a trowel to get it out of the ground. The last, lonely carrot was a monster, at least six inches in diameter and more than a foot and a half in length. Looked like something that was sown next to a nuclear plant. Still tasted pretty good, though. Wish I still had the picture.

Well, to be fair, zucchini squash grown in the right soil does taste great as does summer, crook neck and straight neck squash. I’ve never grown spaghetti squash but sure love to eat it! Now I want to go plant a garden!

I think I plant them (and pumpkins) more for the squirrels than for me.

Once again JJ proves that he is somehow spying on us. My wife suckers for those kind of comments every time.
