Arlo and Janis by Jimmy Johnson for December 08, 2016
Transcript:
Janis: Doesn't it make you feel insignificant? Arlo: That's what they always say, but I don't know! Arlo: It makes me feel small! Isolated, maybe. Mortal! Definitely! Arlo: But to feel insignificant is to have an outsized opinion of yourself from the get-go!

We were created in God’s image to be His sons and we’ll live forever ruling & reigning with Him. Doesn’t sound like we’re insignificant at all.

That’s how I’ve felt for years. Milky Way Galaxy 200 to 300 billion stars, 50 nearby satellite galaxy’s. the sky is so immense. Yes we are not as important as we think.

We’re a part of something bigger, nothing insignificant about that.

Arlo, if you were insignificant Janis wouldn’t be clinging to you like she is.

I never feel insignificant when looking at the stars. I’m just happy to be part of the whole universal circus.

We are all important enough that God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for us and to live for us! Merry Christmas!

It could be that we evolved into consciousness and developed scientific knowledge so that the universe could take a look around and appreciate itself.

Ever since I was a teenager, I’ve liked to drive out to some dark country lane and look at the night sky with a good pair of binoculars. You see so much more, and get an idea of just how many stars there are out there. Having known about the Drake Equation even when I was young, seeing all those stars didn’t make me feel insignificant so much as it made me feel less lonely, knowing all those other intelligent species were out there somewhere.

Looking at the stars makes my problems seem insignificant. That is a good feeling.

A reminder there is much more out there than here, and that we have no place to go and are stuck here so we shouldn’t be trashing it.
