When Brooke Shields was still a teenager, she commented, “People ask me if I’m good in bed. When I’m ill, I stay in bed quietly and my Mom brings me chicken soup. That’s what good in bed means to me.”
Tech Tip: according the the “experts” to get the most out of your battery in your phone, you should operate it between 80% and 20% all the time. Yeah, like who does that?
A battery’s life is based on how many times it’s been discharged and recharged. So the experts recommend NOT leaving it in the charger all night. The charger will charge it to 100% then let it discharge to 99% or maybe 99.5% and then recharge it. They claim that this 1% discharge – recharge happening over and over lessens battery life.
I’m not so sure. First of all, it’s a small cycle. Secondly, I don’t think it happens that much. I did an experiment. I plugged my phone in after dinner. Before bed, I checked it. It was 100%. I unplugged it. The next morning it was 99%. So if I have left it in, it might have recharged twice.
I am sure that if I stuck to this schedule religiously, I’d extend my battery life by a fraction of a percent.
Yes, in theory, leaving your phone in the charger all night decreases battery life. I’m not sure it is worth the effort.
I use my phone to get the codes for two-factor identification so I can log into my various accounts and – get this – make and receive phone calls! I can go several days before I get a low battery warning.
The Lockhorns are about cell phones today too! I put mine on a wireless charger before I go to sleep so I get my Kindle out and catch up on my reading.
We have outlets all over, including on the floor between our recliners. Since I sleep in the recliner for now, I have one position to sleep in, and I’m close to my phone and the charging cable.

My favourite position is close to the bathroom. The phone lives in the living room at night.
