I remember building forts. I would normally use bamboo sticks tied together at the top, covered in a tarp. It was essentially a teepee. I also had a big flat rock I liked to use as the floor. One day, I picked up the rock to move the fort and discovered a massive ant colony. And that was the end of that!
I used to build my own clubhouse (not a fort) by propping found pieces of cardboard and wood in my grandmother’s backyard. Then, I would just sit inside and deny entry to my sisters. :)
