    Being serious for a minute, I watched rural women in Korea in the 1970s washing clothing exactly that way. Very labor intensive, difficult, takes many hours and was very hard on the clothing. And saw rural women in IndoChina(I was there in 1969 and 1970. Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos. All the same but at the same time, very different do the same thing, abet in a much warmer climate and in what appeared to be a much dirtier river
