Now why couldn’t Cruz be Carmen’s lengua-liking grandnephew instead of Baldo?

What is the obsession in this strip with lengua casserole? Is it the most disgusting thing she cooks? Is it a common hispanic food? Do most people hate it?

    Tongue is good stuff!

The food of desperation, becomes the food of ethnic identity, becomes a treasured memory to those who don’t have to eat it or starve… Well, there are some who treasure it as cultural heritage, and some who would rather starve today.

a casserole you can eat by hand ?? oh I get it is a bit of tongue. To me, it is one of those things like a kidney. I tried that once in the mess hall. one of the things served at the end-of-month budget. Another was chili mac served lunch and dinner for three days after trying the kidney I almost looked forward to the chili mac.

My son loves lengua tacos. I could never work up the courage to try them.

I’m 72 but when I was a boy, my father would bring home some sliced tongue from the deli on occasion. I liked it. It was a slight upgrade over bologna. But I don’t know about now. You actually don’t see it in any of the grocery chains’ deli counters, but they do carry it raw in places like ShopRite.

My mom, italian-american (though she called herself sicilian-american) child of the depression, would make tongue for us. I didn’t like it and haven’t had it since I left home, now some 55 years ago.

I could never eat something that came out of an animal’s mouth; just fry me an egg.

From his size, it looks like Cruz will eat anything.

Never heard about lengua living in West Texas, but when the Knights of Columbus used to have menudo breakfasts after Mass – um never was tempted to try it based on the odor…..

He just goes to the fridge and grabs what he wants? And it has a huge label on it? But it’s not wrapped in any way? And he eats it cold standing by the fridge with the door open? And Baldo is complaining that someone is eating something that he doesn’t want to eat? I don’t get it.
