ok, something’s seriously screwy here.

My mother said that she saw a bicyclist near a swimming pool. His towel got stuck in the front spokes. The bike did a complete flip and landed upright without injuring the rider.

He is lazy, Baldo, not a barbarian.

A little compassion and common curtesy go a long way. Unfortunately that seems to be a bit of a lost art in today’s America.

We usually see Jake as just a lazy so-and-so. This probably doesn’t mark a change in his character, but serves as a reminder not to assume that just because someone has one glaring character flaw (and it is surprising how many of us do) s/he may still be a nice person in other ways.

There are people who get along with adults better than with kids. Maybe the opposite exists, too, and that’s why Jake’s co-workers don’t see him at his best.

Baldo seems surprised?

Why is Baldo so shocked? Almost anyone would stop to help a hurt child.

Oh, what’s this? A side of Jake about which Baldo didn’t know?

I’m wondering what Jake’s home life is like, Maybe he’s got younger siblings that he has to take care of and doesn’t get a lot of sleep having to help parent or parents with them. Maybe both his parents have to work long hard hours? Might explain why he was sleeping?
