Everyone’s got of Tequila Story! Mine? Not enough room here to tell, but if the cops had found me I wouldn’t have been taken to jail for long….they’d have had to take to me to the hospital for alcohol poisoning. Took years before I could even think about smelling tequila.
Okay, now that the “pink slip” bit has been explained (I wouldn’t have guessed either), what would the turtle have gotten if he’d won? Four rabbit’s feet?
Strange. I can remember being at street races in California the late ‘70s where titles changed hands. Haven’t run with that crowd since then, so I don’t know if it still happens or not. Probably not, since if California won’t even enforce the laws against illegal immigration, they probably won’t enforce laws against illegal straight racing, or even care if a car is registered or not.
We used to find big snapping and red slider turtles hit and killed by cars. If the shells were intact, we’d put them on an anthill so the ants would clean off the meat. What flesh remained we picked out by hand. It’s interesting how the ribs of a turtle are actually built into the shell (or vice versa). We had several of these shells preserved and hung them on the wall with artificial flowers in them.
Ha, ha!!! In this day of leased cars in America or people rolling one car loan into the next car loan, so many people have never seen the certificate of ownership (pink slip) for a car!
@Jo Clear (aka: Grasshopper)“it was not the boring Beach Boys who thought of that name…”.I don’t believe they used that song, LITTLE DEUCE COUPE, to imply the Beach Boys coined the term but that it was cultural reference to explain the usage.

The “Pink Slip” was the title/deed to the car. Winner keeps both his and the loser’s. In this case, the Hare won and has a new “ride.”

Just to confuse the issue a pink slip was also what your employer gave you when your services were no longer needed. Pink Slip = You’re Fired.
