    And thus, special foods, pest powders, inoculations, vet bills, custom accessories, obedience lessons, movie serials, and pick up bags, etc, grew into a major segment of the national economy.

    Not complaining. Contributed regularly for over 50 years and enjoyed almost all of it, except being left with only the pics and memories. Good friends all and the best parts of some years.

    Our pets are our friends, family, and love providers. I treasure the memories of all of mine and consider the money spent on them as investments in my mental health.

    A columnist wrote in the Washington Post decades ago about his dog. When the guy got up to make a phone call, the dog continued to sleep, not moving a muscle. When he got up to get ice cream, the dog jumped up immediately for its share. He had no idea what tipped off the dog. Dogs read people very well.
