Ah, the ancient bond between grandparent and grandchild: based on sharing a common enemy.

In too many cases these days, the reverse seems to be happening

My dad’s mom and Papa Joe (my grandma’s second husband) spoiled me; but also gave me good values and ways to live etc. I saved my money, had a ton of jobs (babysitting, selling Avon, doing chores for our neighbors, doing extra chores at home. My second favorite was cleaning house with my mom. My first was helping my dad with fixing cars.

Most I ever got from my grandparents was 2 pieces of chocolate (the boxed small pieces for grownups kind). A piece of cake if there was a family holiday dinner (and since we are Jewish – that was not worth having at Passover).
