I can’t remember which self-made from nothing millionaire said it, but he said: “If I were given a million, I’d have even more in a year as I’d make the money work, whereas you’d have nothing, because you’d spend it all”.
I think the point is to think of something pleasant. I’ve found that running the games of a Chess Tournament I won through my head works better than anything else. I rarely get to the super-cool last round game, where both players were 8-0…
I run list through my head to help keep my mind from wandering. I usually start with states and capitals, followed by US Presidents and spouses (spouses not being the same in some cases as First Ladies), followed by monarchs of England/Great Britain. If that has not worked I run through them in reverse order.
More recently I have been leaving a children’s TV show from Australia on TV with the sound very low if it is one of the nights it is on. The show is called “Bluey” and is about a blue heeler dog and her parents and sister – the dogs are humanized – living in house, walking on rear legs, wearing clothing, talking, going to school, – park – or on a car trip (dad and mum drive). It is quiet and soothing and works well for me with the sound low on the nights it is on while I am going to sleep.
Other nights I do the same with an American children’s show called “Xavier Riddle” about a boy, his sister and his friend. Boy and sister live in the museum their parents own and there is a secret part of the museum where the three of them travel through time to meet different historical figures when same were children and then again when grown (though the grown versions look as they did when children). Idea is to show children that even famous people were children once themselves.
Then again there are nights when by the time I get myself to fall asleep it is almost time to wake up.

Red is the appropriate color for a mid-life crisis, but you might want to get a car that’s more age friendly.

Perhaps yellow would draw less attention.
