It can be a greeting. I have said hello to actual kitties.

Other than that, it’s one of those things of which I prefer to be only vaguely aware.

Whaddaya know? I bought a Hello Kitty backpack years ago as a Christmas present for my grandniece on the advice of a couple of teenage girls working at the gift shop. The backpack and the stuff I put in it were a hit, so I was happy. That little girls is in college now. I don’t know where Hello Kitty is.

Also Kitty on Gunsmoke is not an actual cat. And I amused when she shows up and Matt says “Hello, Kitty.”

No? I thought so too, so just googled it…saw a photo and said, “Yeah, that’s a cat”. But upon reading about it, I see I am wrong. I’ll have to remember this in case the question comes up on Jeopardy.

Hello Kitty is pink. That’s all I need to know. Mask, gloves, pincers, and a radioactive proof bin bag.

I am confused, Wikipedia says it’s not a cat, it’s an anthropomorphized Gijinka, which is a cat (a Japanese bobtail, a common house cat in Japan). I guess it’s not a “cat” because it’s anthropomorphized? Shades of Margaritte: Ceci n’est pas une pipe.

OK, I looked it up. So she’s just a little girl. Then why does she look like a cat?
