The catch is that you have to be able to read.

Guess it follows; hospitals, schools, libraries won’t take ’em.

I’ll wait until there’s free ebook readers in them.

The catch is an increased sense of community.

Next thing you know, you’ll be working on little magical places yourselves – maybe even hiding painted stones or something!

Ive stopped and looked in a few of these, I didn’t take anything but there were a few books I would read

I have about 16 books waiting to be read now and a very specific list that I’m looking for

Some of the books on my list are rare and I’ve paid up to $20 for used copies, I doubt I would ever find one of those in a free book house

We have a lot of these in the UK. Most of those iconic red phone boxes have had the phones removed, but the community have kept the kiosks and filed them with books and local information. Take a book, leave another in its place, if you have one.

I live out in the sticks (in the USA) but there is a little church not far from my home that has one of these. I have gotten a LOT of books there, and donated a lot, too! It’s great!

I love these little free libraries! If we weren’t so far off the beaten path, we’d have one ourselves.

I am surprised she hasn’t known of the free to read books. They have been around for quite a few years. It’s to encourage people ( mostly children) to read. Take a book and leave a book.

We have several in my vicinity. I will say that I’ve seen some books I’m sure came from the clearance aisle at Half Price Books. My favorite thing to leave is kids’ graphic novels.

I tried this with beer. Take a beer, leave a beer.

    It didn’t work.

I haven’t borrowed any from ours yet but I’ve donated several. Usually I keep my books but these weren’t good enough.
