Who does one leave ethics too? News (oops, a corporation), Media (again a corporation), Hollywood (ditto), Religion (which one), Government (a honey trap for the most unethical people), ….
Alex is right, and that’s what’s wrong. Michael Lerner pushed for a “new bottom line” where corporations needed to follow ethical practices or not get their charter renewed.
Part of the problem is not everyone agrees with what exactly is ethical. What makes things great for some people can be horrible for another. In the end, decisions get made by the people with the deepest pockets and they are not always the wisest.
“Captains of Industry” (CEOs, etc.) wield scads of economic power, even when they just stick to business matters. Do you really want them to have power over other aspects of society and culture? Doesn’t that sound like Neo-feudalism?

And since you and I are the government, it’s up to you and I to invest so that we make the world a better place while we make a decent ROI.
