Big Nate by Lincoln Peirce for October 30, 2011
Transcript:
Kid says, "Mommy, look at the smurf!" Nate says, "Smurf? That kid called me a smurf! Excuse me, I'm a lawn gnome! Smurfs and lawn gnomes don't look alike! Not even close! Smurfs are blue! Do I look blue to you? No! Smurf! Please!" Girl says, "Ooh! Are you a smurf like me?" Nate says, "Why, yes I am!" Francis says, "Quick costume change."

He does look a little like a bad Papa Smurf impersonator. (Bad only because his face isn’t blue and P.S.’s beard is not a goatee.) .Anyway, I love that Lincoln managed to make a Sunday strip that is independent as required and still manages to flow nicely with the current daily strips.

Well anyway I had hoped for more. Lincoln really hits one outta the park on Sunday once in awhile, but this week’s doesn’t make me “LOL”. Bah, humbug. Oh Linkin, Linkin, what were ya drinkin’?!?!

The answer to your “what is going on” question is a little complicated, but here goes: The colors are different because I’m in charge ONLY of coloring the Sunday page. Someone from gocomics colors the daily strips. That usually works fine, because I’ve furnished gocomics with a list of what colors to use for clothing, skin tones, backgrounds, and so on. But when a character isn’t wearing his/her “normal” clothes, then sometimes things like this happen. (Personally, I have always felt and continue to feel that, in a newspaper, daily comics look best in black & white, and Sunday comics in color. But I certainly understand why most people feel differently.)

I think he meant “put a BIG bullseye” on Nate’s house……for all the egg-throwing that should happen, because a)Nate’s dad really does hand out something dreadful, and/or b)he forgot to get any treats at all (he DID do that a few years back…hilarious), orrrrrr: c)he scores A+ with the trick-or-treaters (for a change!!) but STILL gets egged because, well, he’s a dork anyway, eh?? HAW!!

Oh, that’s not rude at all. He was probably thinking that they drew bullseyes on Nate’s house and threw eggs on their house. Either that, or he was making up a metaphor, saying bullseye is like another way of saying a target, which is what Nate’s house is.

Once, when I went trick-or-treating with my friend, she decided she didn’t like her costume so she changed it. Then she changed it again. And again. She changed it 15 times. It was hilarious.
