Tomorrow is the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Today is the 56th anniversary of RFK’s assassination. D-Day seems like yesterday to those few soldiers who abide, I’m sure. RFK’s murder is as vivid in its own way to me as if it happened yesterday, too.
With apology the Don McLean, ’68 had two days that the possibilities, if not the music, died: April 4th and June 5th.
These heroes fought against fascism, the same kind of fascism that the Nodfather and the rest of the Putin controlled magats are now calling patriotism.
Ronald Reagan visited a cemetery of German SS soldiers at Bitburg and laid a wreath there. Trump couldn’t be bothered to visit any sites because it was raining. Are all these Magahats just like them, or do they really believe trump is looking out for them? (Besides the Billionaire-Investor class)
They saved the world from fascism. Preventing fascism from taking over the USA is the best way to honour them. Vote Blue in this and every election, all the way down to dogcatcher and school board.
That it seems such a short time ago that these events occurred makes it all the more depressing that so many people seem unaware of the arc of history to where we are today. Thousands of young Americans dies on the beaches of Normandy fighting Fascism and Nazis, so that the MAGA GOP can bring Fascism and Nazis back to America.
Unfortunately, this may be our tomorrow too. The authoritarians around the world are increasing in power. In many countries democracy seems to be in retreat as extreme nationalists take over. Some of these authoritarians are working, or have expressed desires, to expand their countries’ borders by any means necessary. Influencing people with falsehoods and disinformation is an easy and cheap method. There will be more wars in our collective future.

That’s what my dad used to say. He’s been gone forty years now, it feels like it was yesterday.
