I’m surprised there aren’t more addicts in that room. Or maybe that’s only the 10:00 group.

    I’m a bad boy.

There is a feral colony of cats in my neighborhood that a certain group of people “take care of”. However they refuse to spay/neuter the cats. I’ve tried talking to animal control, but those people sabotage the traps (have a heart) by setting them off or stealing them. This spring I started sprinkling catnip seeds in those people’s yards in the attempt to get the cats to stay near their houses once it grows.

    Fun fact, from https://www.petmd.com/cat/general-health/does-catnip-make-cats-high

“The psychoactive effects of catnip on cats are more than just a pleasant coincidence. Researchers speculate there is also an evolutionary component to the behaviors induced by the plant.

“Feline species tend to stalk their prey in tall grass or dense brush, where exposure to insects is inevitable. Mosquitoes enjoy feeding on cat ears, where blood vessels are superficial and relatively unprotected by fur.

“As mosquitoes can transmit heartworms and induce profoundly itchy allergic reactions in cats, some people believe that cats may instinctively use catnip as a bug spray of sorts. Catnip, along with several other catnip “alternatives,” like silver vine and valerian, show significant insect-repellent effects.

“Across affected species—leopards, cougars, servals, lynxes, jaguars, and lions, among others—rubbing the face in catnip is one of the most common behaviors, further underscoring the theory that catnip susceptibility confers an evolutionary advantage by keeping away disease-causing insects.

“In essence, cats are rewarded with pleasant, endorphin-induced sensations for protecting themselves against insects to improve their odds of survival in the wild.”

When our daughter was little we had an orange tabby named Aggie. We pretended that she had a modeling career and had a catnip problem. There was a sleazy cat named Tom involved.

My feral cats are members of Sardines Anonymous. “HI, my name is Fluffy, (said with a paw up that is quivering in fear), The aroma from the dining room was so good, such an intense fishy scent, I decided to try the restaurant out. As soon as I went in, the door closed behind me and I couldn’t get out…Then parts of my anatomy went missing….I am so ashamed….” paw continues to quiver as Fluffy sits back down with a wild look in the eyes, darting around the room full of equally stunned cats.
