I had a dog who was totally deaf by about age 10. I used to sometimes get home as she got older, and I could read a few hours before she realized I was home. When she woke up she would look so confused and then so very excited to see me! Older dogs tend to sleep more deeply, or at least mine have. I had a deaf cat who still met me every day at the door. I guess she felt vibrations of the garage door going up.

Yep, we have one of these. Or at least my husband does. When it’s “past time” according to this one, he comes to get me to see what’s wrong or to have me call my husband or something.
