I’m with Oliver when it comes to words—“tome”, “elephantine” … so descriptive, so satisfying, like savoring a dark chocolate truffle.

I personally make a point never to use “tome” without putting “learnèd” in front of it.

Binkley is so wrong and represents the Dumbing Down. Oliver is right to expand his vocabulary (and Binkley’s, too)!

I’ve always been grateful that whenever I asked my mother what a word meant, she told me, “Look it up!”. Ever since my youthful days, the dictionary has been my best friend!
