That’s why peasant farmers had lots of children, they needed to grow their labour force.

When did chores stop as a thing for kids?

Oh well, now they have homework.

Hmmm. Doonesbury happens to be in the middle of the Nike arc as we speak.

If he starts singing negro spirituals, I’m gonna laugh my face off.

I don’t remember Doonesbury being in trouble for Nike, but I DO remember Doonesbury being in trouble for Jimmy Hoffa and Frank Sinatra, though.

Since when does a nice home in a safe neighborhood, utilities, clothes, food, etc. qualify as “virtually no compensation”? Then again, this just shows that Huey, no matter how intelligent he may be, is still just a child.

So now kids have to be ‘productive’ instead of just being ‘kids’. Explains a lot about today’s youth’s attitudes.

Kids were always productive from as soon as they could walk, as my parents used to remind me.

I had a fair list of chores to do while my parents were working.

It is only lately that kids have not had so many chores to do as they usually have to put in a couple of hours homework.

Ours were still expected to tidy up after themselves and to clean their rooms.
