Dad is channeling my father in this one.

I’m beginning to see where Calvin gets his attitude from.

Dad has a point. That’s why I prefer email. It takes much less time to ignore it.

What’s an answering machine?

I love Calvin, but I like just seeing his parents alone in a strip once in a while. They can definitely hold their own, and the way they talk about him sometimes, it makes his bad behavior seem almost legendary. :)

It’s those darn secretaries.

I switched over from a landline with an answering machine (primarily for screening calls: just pick up if it was someone I wanted to talk to) to strictly a cellphone. Despite telling her I no longer had an answering machine, for two weeks, my mother’s voicemails to me always started, “emjaycee, pick up the phone. I know you’re there. (pause) This is your mother. Pick up the phone. (pause) Stop screening your calls. Pick up the phone.” Finally dawned on her that I could not screen a voicemail on a cellphone. Oy.

Or you could just let Calvin answer the phone!

Calvin definitely takes after his dad!

That’s ALL I use my phone for….IF there’s anyone I actually want or need to talk to.

How OLD are these strips? Secretaries???

At least now you can screen your calls. Before caller ID, you never knew if it was family, friend, annoying telemarketer or bill collector.

Let it ring and they’ll stop calling… Why doesn’t that work where I live?!

There were seven messages from school today.

An attorney who doesn’t like talking to people … why isn’t he a congressman by now?

Keith Richards was asked why he dosn’t have a cell., Keith looked at him, then said, “It’d never stop ringing..”

When did C&H turn into Real Life Adventures?

And those telegraph machines take even longer with all their beeping and tapping. I wish I could throw my telegraph machine out the window.

I breifly worked for a company that did not allow direct inbound calls between 10 AM and 4 PM. All calls were cut off at the front desk and messages were taken.

OK kids, it’s time to put the clay away. We’re going to do coloring books now.

P.S. You did notice I said, “briefly.” Not naming any company but the Associates have something to do with Computers.

Mine was back in the taped-message answering machine days; "Hello, you’ve reached (my number) I’m either in the outhouse or the shop and there’s no phone in either one. So leave a message at the beep ".. It took me about a dozen tries to get all that right at exactly 9.5 seconds on a ten-second tape. Fun days.

Secretaries are the ones that know where everything is and how to legally get things done.

People who I know leave me a voicemail when I’m unavailable… Which is nearly ALL the time! As my mobile is upstairs and I’m not.

The only calls I don’t mind missing are nuisance calls.

Imagine, forced to be courteous and social with your clients in a professional environment. The horror….

For many years I must hve been the only person in this country over the age of 5 who did not have a mobile. My stepson gave me his when he bought a fancy new one. I onlycharge it up when expecting visitors from abroad.

Every now and again we get shown where Calvin gets it from.

Looks like dad and Calvin have some similar thoughts!

I never had a secretary, but my father had a job at a company with a receptionist/phone operator. If he was with a client, he refused to take phone calls.

(1) He didn’t want to ignore a fellow who had come to see him in favor of a guy who just picked up a phone to call. Why waste the time of the guy who was making an effort to be there in person?

(2) The receptionist was there to take a message if needed.

(3) His job was not that time-critical that he’d miss an emergency if a phone call was not answered within an hour or two.
