Sharper than a serpent’s tooth is a unloving mother.

Mom probably wants them to leave.

Mom’s are like that – they know when to give you a looooong rope. The umbilical may be cut – but they got you roped in. Just as well!!

Maybe if you had a rocket, she would’ve believed you more.

“You’ll be home for dinner or you’ll be eating nothing but red dirt!”

In “Yukon Ho!”, Mom stopped Calvin that he was going southwest as he and Hobbes were heading out to live in said Canadian territory. Even Calvin thought she wanted to say goodbye.

She’s been waiting for this!

She would’ve reacted much differently to, “Mom, me and Hobbes are going into town! Bye!”

Yeah, Hobbes, almost as if she thought we wouldn’t actually do it.

Parting is such sweet sorrow only if someone else cares. Children do build fantasies on the smallest perceived slights. That’s why little kids run away. Mom, of course, is cooking to give him nourishment. It’s sometimes only much later that we realize how much our mothers loved us.

I remember being told “Were you born in a barn?” more times than Reagan had jelly beans in his entire life.

Now they can get the dog that dad always wanted….

Johnny Cash summed up Mom’s feelings the best when he sang Goodbye Little Darling….

She doesn’t care if Calvin comes or goes; the important thing is no bugs get in!

She knows he’s just a kid playing, no matter how serious he is or what he seems to believe.

Somehow, I’d expect Spaceman Spiff to have a clearer picture of the difficulties involved in this undertaking…

Calvin will now pollute Mars…

Sadly, Mars is polluted by dozens of spacecraft.

While you’re leaving, you may as well pack a lunch, Hobbes gets grumpy on an empty stomach.
