I bet Calvin remembers when his dad locked him outside a few days ago.

I prefer them to be on Christmas cards, got more than enough of the real thing during four years in the UP.

As a native of the Phoenix, Arizona metro area I have to ask…“What’s this thing called SNOW people often talk about”? ;P

as a native of western Washington State, there are at times hardly any snow… so at times we get a wet Christmas (but according to the forecast I’ve read on my iPhone’s weather app, it will be between sunny and clear Christmas Day)

This is the only way I can see snow like this. Sigh

On Easter 1999 we had snow here in Tucson, AZ. Brrr!

As a native and current resident of south-central upstate NY who lived out west for 15 years, including 8 in Las Vegas I have to say that nature is what you make of it. Get outside, get off your butt, turn off your device and enjoy it. Get outside and play! There is a beauty to cross-country skiing through a pine forest after a fresh snowfall that cannot be described. It can only be experienced. And, at night-see fivestring65’s comment above. There is a beauty to mountain biking in the desert foothills that cannot be described. I’ll never forget the moonless night in the Red Rocks outside of Las Vegas when I saw the Hale-Bopp comet. The desert sky at night is awesome. My kids (4, 6 & 10) each have their own smart phone, they know how to use it and they want to go outside every day. They’ll never be fat. Get out there!

When you’re at home, yes. BUT, when you are sitting in a truckstop 2000 miles from home, watching it snow, knowing you have to drive a 75’ Semi another 500 miles tomorrow on icy and snow covered roads to try to make a scheduled delivery in Dingweed, Montana, or Nowhere, Idaho, it loses a LOT of it’s charm…

Wait until you get old enough to shovel it in the morning, Calvin.

In Detroit, on the day after a snowfall, the plowed mounds of snow on the edges of streets, covered with black ash, icy sidewalks and “let it snow, let it snow…” coming out of department store speakers, we longed for Easter to come.

Did I mention I got a job in Florida when I got out of college?

Actually, it’s better if a deer or two pass through the scene.

Snow has definite advantages. It covers eyesores and makes everything clean. And it’s the perfect excuse not to cut the lawn and weed the garden. AND you can make a snowman!

Currently we will have a slight white Christmas here in central Ontario. Kinda rare but it does happen. a few years ago we have 18" of snow at Christmas adding up to a total of 42" when it was all said and done by Feb. 28th. As a home owner I’m good with 2 inches of snow. As a member of the Winterfest Board I want 3 feet of snow after Jan. 2nd.

Count your blessings if you are on the warm side.. Many are not.

Saturday night we received a light dusting of snow in Eastern Ontario. That coupled with the brightest full moon in a long time made for a wonderful sight of snow glistening on a cold winter’s night and gave thought for peace on earth and goodwill toward all!

Especially if that window is in Phoenix! Merry Christmas from the land of lighted palm trees and cactus!

Come to Minnesota. Hurry though. Snow coming Thursday, then below 10 degrees. A picture is worth a thousand words…

Temps will be a little too warm for snow where I live this Christmas. Getting plenty of rain, though.

Instead of a white Christmas this year I have a wet Christmas.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say “nothing prettier”; but, I would say “being thankful for having a warm, safe place to be on a cold, bleak night”. That being said; I wish everyone a warm, safe Christmas.

Snow? Not in Houston anymore. Not since that magic year of 1983. Even when we had snow it was thin, wet and useless to make anything.

For us a dry Christmas in KS until Tuesday evening rain is coming Wednesday is rainy day.

According to the the phase of the moon, Calvin is up and about at 4AM.

Also cold here. Brrrrrrr!

Bill Watterson lived a mile from my house in Chagrin Falls Ohio. I can’t help but think this comic was inspired by Christmas Eve 1969 when we had a full moon and I have a coating of snow on the ground. Bill was 11 years old then. fact snow squalls coming off Lake Erie would make it snow like a blizzard and 15 minutes later the moon would be shining bright. The house that Calvin and Hobbes live in is actually the exact replica of the Watersons residence and the hill behind the house that Calvin sleds down to the Chagrin river is also real.

Getting an inch of snow is like winning a dollar in the lottery.

You should be able to find some snow in Northern Arizona in the winter at times. Make the trip.

The snow is beautiful and great as long as it either melts or the roads are clear the next day! I live in the South and people who have moved here from the North don’t realize that we normally have ice underneath all that snow. You absolutely can not drive on it like you would if it was just snow, no matter if you have a 4-wheel drive or not! I’m not afraid of my own driving on it (because I know there is ice under it), I’m afraid of the other people who drive like it’s just a bare road!
