Huh. Major logic gaffe here. In the previous week, we were treated to the fact that Calvin knows staggering amounts about dinosaurs – yet in this strip, he refers to the “brontosaurus”, a made-up creature that never existed, was never fully accepted by the scientific community, and was mercifully and finally debunked in the first part of the 20th century. Watterson’s line weight, color and shadow skills are incredible, and the motion in the leaping allosaurus is genius. You can tell he had so much fun drawing the Calvin strip, until he didn’t.

Good thing Calvin’s not surnamed “Crankshaft!”

I always liked his dinosaurs best. And wanted him to illustrate some kind of Dinosaur book with humorous asides.
