My parents finessed the TV issue: There was none in our house until after I went off to college. Though my youngest sibs got to watch TV (very limited)… partly because there was an AFS exchange student living there and they thought he’d get something good from watching US TV. I think they were cockeyed optimists, myself.
everybody here needs to have “the talk” and figure out how children are born because in nov-dec of this year we will begetting a lot of "new calvins " with or without the planned aspect
My family went to dinner when there was a new ‘Peanuts’ special I wanted to watch and didn’t like that we were there for what seemed too long and missed part of the show. My parents were not happy with how I was ruining the experience for the family. When I got older, I came to understand how important that family time was for us back then. Of course, my parents aren’t broadly drawn comic strip characters.
Male equivalent of a Karen? I belong to a board where if you use the term “don’t be a Nancy” is grounds for a warning and then if repeated, a banning. You don’t see the term “PC correct” much anymore, but it’s worse than ever. Not saying I agree with it. There is far too much of it IMO. Removes some freedom.
As a boy, I eventually realized that the stay-at-the-table rule was to keep you from running out on the after-meal cleanup. Yes, children were actually expected to help clean up.
This used to drive me nuts, lol. I was a fast eater, and my mother was the slowest eater on the face of the Earth. I was bored senseless and hated to hear the sound of other people eating (even now, that feeling has just gotten worse).

“Calvin Meets the Simpsons.” I see great potential there.

What’s the male equivalent of a Karen? Because I feel like Calvin’s dad is one.

This is why I like to eat by myself. Family just isn’t worth my time anymore. It’s a hassle.

They should do a sitcom episode where the kid spends the entire 30 minutes watching his parents chew.

He could have finished his dinner in the time it took to argue about it.

Let him leave the table, then you can eat in peace. If you force him to stay, say goodbye to your appetite. That’s how it was with my brother.

One of my kids complains she doesn’t get to eat hot meals.
I reply that it takes her longer to eat a meal than it took for me to cook it, of course it is cold!

Well, Calvin— spending time watching the rest of your family chewing builds character.

That difference helps to explain the extreeeeeme popularity of family sitcoms. They were soooooo much more fun than reality.

My kids can leave the table when they’re done, but they don’t get to go watch TV or play video games until everyone is done because I’m “mean”.

So he insults the food but the only rebuttal is that he should stay with the family? (Still love the little mischief maker!)

DVR. Even VCR when this was published.

I’d let the brat leave as soon as possible. Why would anyone want to eat with a kid like that around?

Again, somebody left out the “h” between the “s” and “I” in s_itcom.

Calvin is better off by himself, considering some of the horribly inaccurate statements his retard of a father has made.

A sitcom family? Calvin would fit perfectly with the Bundys on “Married With Children.”
