I recall being a kid who actually liked prunes (some). After a little social pressure, though, it became a solitary vice. These days I will eat one or two, but I much prefer very slightly sweetened dried mango, dried figs or the leathery sulfured apricots.
I see no one has pinched ‘Mom’ yet to check to see if she is dreaming—which is my bet on why this ‘arc’ is going the way it is. Only possible explanation.
Ummm, Calvin is making me ill here. Where’d the self centered cretin gone? I like the “good morning Mom” though, but if my son said that I’d be looking for the hidden drugs or on/off switch.
The Calvin substitute keeps giving himself away. His biggest mistake is to say that he likes getting up early in the morning. The real Calvin is only like that on Christmas Mornings and Saturday mornings. This was when Saturday morning TV was associated with cartoons.
Just who is this strange “Calvin”? An alien dopplegangger? A changeling from the elfin underworld??? Ok…i give up.. who is the demonic twin who has replaced the Calvin we know and love?
We have something in Iceland that we call “sætsúpa” (sweet soup), and it’s delicious. It contains various dried fruits, such as raisins, apples, apricots, and, you guessed, prunes. Here’s a recipe:
This is reminding me of one of my favorite children’s books, “The Lemonade Trick,” by Scott O’Dell. Anyone else read it? Kirby’s parents are so concerned about his abrupt good behavior, they keep checking his temperature. “I feel good, Mom, very good.”
As a teen, I rowed in an 8-oar shell. Our coach wanted me in the 150 pound boat, so we had cereal and milk with prunes every morning before going out on the river. Fortunately, we practiced for only a couple of hours each morning. I was stroke, so the cox was in front of me and seven guys were behind me. If you catch my drift.

I posted this at the beginning of the current arc but late in the day. Re-posting as it’s relevant to this story, historic (lol) and pretty funny.
First “spit take” ever. It was prompted by kids being uncharacteristically polite: https://youtu.be/9XpiZ0nEoJc
I just watched it again, lol, I’m tearing up. It’s gut busting! They did good.
