Saleswoman: Plumps the lips! Plumps the cheeks! Plumps the brow! Plumps the chin! Plumps the eyes! Plumps the jaw! Plumps the lids! Cathy: Another bonus expense of womanhood: We have to pay to do to the neck up what we achieve so effortlessly from the neck down.

I don’t understand, who the &$!# does this every day. Cathy what’s this obsession with your face, do you really need all that in the first panal?

With all that plumping, she’s going to look like she has the mumps.

@fierce. Too many TV “personalities” and actresses and actors, musicians and jet setters spend more on personal trainers, enhancements and the like in a year than would be needed to feed and clothe and decently house all of Haiti. Yet these people are “admired” for their “generosity” when they put on a fundraiser that garners less than they usually make on one performance.

If only Cathy would realize that Irving loves her in spite of her clothing-and-cosmetics obsession, not because of it, they might have a real marriage…

I’m happy to say I’m not of the female persuasion…particularly if this is what they subject themselves to.
I’ve heard it said before: When a man gets gray, he becomes distinguished. When a woman gets gray, she becomes old……… :-)

Doc - Your reasoning sounds like my husband’s. He requested I quit wearing makeup, because he wanted a wife he could touch, not just look at. Since we married, I’ve only worn makeup when required for theatrical productions. I don’t miss the time nor the money I used to spend on makeup (and I did very little compared to most women).

going to the counter to buy a a small item, leads to the 1st panel scene. It can be overwhelming, but do not give in, Cathy.

Cathy Guisewite must really hate women.

I don’t think the cartoonist hates anybody. Probably, she loves whichever sex is the richest fodder for her comics (i.e., both).
