Green beans stuffed behind take-out italian next to an egg container full of little packs of soy sauce! Has anyone in this house ever heard of a vegetable crisper??! Irving: I use the vegetable crisper all the time, mom. Mrs. Hillman: Thank heavens for ONE sensible person! Irving: That's where I keep the beer.

I keep my nail polish in the egg containers - anyone who doesn’t like it can take my bottle of “black plum” and… well… you get the idea.

You can see the strip? All I have is a blank window. What the hell is going on? A lot of the other strips are the same way today. sigh
NE1956 over 14 years ago
Same for me. A blank, in two different browsers. The site is also loading slower than usual. Sigh. I like comics with my breakfast

FWIW - keeping photographic film (remember that? ask your grandparents.. :) ) and batteries in the fridge can help them last longer

First reasonable thing I’ve heard Irving say in months.

Does anyone really put the food on the intended ‘shelves’? I didn’t think so.
I just put them in any old place and am glad that they all fit!

The most that I do is try to keep the meat separated from the fruits and veggies. Don’t want food poisoning if I can help it.

I think if Irving’s mom doesn’t like the fridge so much she should freakin’ clean it. As messed up as she and his dad are, and she’s going to complain about a disorganized fridge? Really?
mrslukeskywalker over 14 years ago
She’s been planted in that house for a year and a half, and she JUST NOTICED the disorganization in the refrigerator? Has the woman seen the rest of the house? Has she seen their desks? Has she LISTENED to her scatterbrain(less) son at all? Has she been too overmedicated, and maybe she’s leveling off finally? Maybe this is why they have been largely absent from annoying us all for a while. I wonder if she’ll try to tackle Cathy’s shoe closet next? Maybe she should. The final panel will be them getting kicked off into outerspace!
My freezer and refrigerator are actually completely clean and organized, so are my cabinets. I also have them well stocked, with every label facing forward, which is why I still can’t believe that these rather large, undisciplined, completely disorganized people have any food at all. They just aren’t the type. They order takeout every time we see them eat, even on the holidays.
If the In Laws clear out the freezer, Cathy will have a place to stash them both. I see it in the news all the time. Peaceful YEARS can go by before anyone finds out.
I knooooooooooow. It’s just a comic strip. I’m off to FBOFW now that I’m out of steam. ; )

LOL, Mrs.LS!! :-) You go, girl!

Mixing meat with fruit and veg can cause food poisoning?? I think you have it wrong. It’s mixing meat and milk that’s bad.
FBOFW is less stressful than Cathy? Yup, I guess so - if mess (in high concentrations) bothers you. Elly has different issues.
It seems to me that when a comic strip gets to someone, it’s because it has hit a sensitive nerve. So it’s never just a comic strip.

I just want Cathy to finally throw the MIL out!!!

I’m (IT) kidding Rina. Can’t you see that? Can’t you find ANY HUMOR in any of what I write, even if it isn’t your prefered brand of humor? Come on! I don’t seem to be the only one who sees these strips the way I do, or comment in the same tone. If not you’re just looking for something to hate me for. That’s fine if you are, just keep it to yourself, ok? Do I say this passive aggressive, obvious, insulting stuff about you or anyone else? NO, I don’t. Many of the people who felt as you do have finally come to see that I am kidding, and they find what I have to say funny, as it was intended to be, rather than the way you’re taking it.
A refrigerator full of nasty old food in a house full of compulsive eaters doesn’t make YOU wonder? I find it highly unlikely.
& I didn’t say my whole house was that organized, but I do believe in clean, fresh food. None of us have ever gotten sick from any of the stuff you hear about on the news. I was using my organized refrigerator to make the point of the previous paragraph.
I think the “sensitive nerves” are all the real life the Ellys and Connies over at FBOFW. They never have anything funny to say, just rabid excuses for some really nauseating women. Cathy is much too far removed from reality by extremism to be anything but funny. Except those In Laws.
All the comments here are humorous, except for your insulting one directed right at me, and this one. Think about it. Even my last sentence was joking, but you couldn’t see that either. Or wouldn’t. Did I ever do that to you? Do you want snide comments from me about whatever you write? I’m really not here for that, but I can oblige.

I thought the fridge was usually empty at Cathy’s – the food was probably deposited by the ILs – and Mrs Luke you can say anything you want about them – on that point we agree. At least Irving has protected THE most important food group.
