Plenty of water to grow the lawn and no need for a garage!

My dad worked for the Bell Telephone Company. At one job, 1950s, the phone lines needed to go across a gas station driveway, he was with the on-site construction crew, at that time lines were still on poles. After offering the owner a lot of money for the right-of-way, which the owner did not take because he was sticking it to the big guys, my dad said “let’s go unground!” This started some of the cable burying processes and equipment needed and the company no-longer required right-of-way permission.

When I was a kid there used to be a house in the middle of this roundabout (bridge approach) https://www.google.ca/maps/@49.3262391,-123.127389,3a,90y,306.09h,66.23t/data=1e11sBswRimQzIhxnospJOesKSw7i16384!8i8192?hl=en . The guy refused to sell so they built around him. Eventually he gave up tho; probably got pennies to the dollar.
