Bah! The Lens is limited technology. If your colony isn’t roughly East-West to your target, it’s worthless.
What you NEED(!!) is a parabolic mirror with adaptive optics!!
It can even be used for Defense!!
.
And next year we’ll solve the problem of night attacks.
heh, Far side had something like this too. a lady looks out her window, which had a nuclear bomb next to it, and saw a nuclear bomb being delivered to the next door neighbor: “Oh look, now the Andersons have the bomb.”
Nebulous, I think the next phase of lens development will simply be adjustable focus. As it stands, the glass shown would only be effective at a single range; an enemy is safe at any point either outside or inside the perimeter dictated by the focal length. Still, this genie is out of the bottle.
Strategic Treaty About Lens Limitation negotiations have begun, but haven’t gotten anywhere yet…
Just east-west attacks? Not hardly. If they’re north of the equator (for example) they can do some pretty nifty south-north attacks as well - just at shorter range. In fact they can attack in an arc from east to north to west, at variable range…
No engineering solution is without tradeoffs…but this is after all the first generation of the Glass.

That’s what they get for not striking pre-emptively. Where’s the ant-eater when you need him?

What happens when the enemy puts paint guns in it’s arsenal?

Maybe it’s the acronym…

Don’t you just hate it when the arms talk… S.T.A.L.L.
Too Funny!

They’re pretty small arms, so it’s just small talk anyway…

The magnifying glass needs to bend down a little bit so the ray of sun can go through it to get something burn in a while.
COGNIZANT almost 15 years ago
The glass needs to be mobile, perhaps mounted on top of a HUMV equipped with a range finder.

Is the looking glass half full or half empty? Ask Alice, I think she’ll know.
