Teacher: Now, in the third measure, you- Phoebe: Should you be teaching me this? I read that the Beatles couldn't read music. Neither could the jazz greats. Aren't you destroying my chance to be legendary? Teacher: I'm evil. Phoebe: I could tell by your beard.

In the original Star Trek TV series, “Evil Spock” also sported a beatnik beard and mustache in the Mirror, Mirror episode.

I don’t know what but something is definitely off about the teacher.

I always knew beards were evil. But I would not be surprised if this teacher turned out to be an elf or an org or some thing, or at least got mistaken for one.

yay! The evil beard of evilness. Time for piano teacher to order an evil pizza! (And appropos of nothing — this teacher reminds me a bit of the genie in the current Pibgorn.)

A) At the moment, I’m sporting a Van Dyke, myself (the Village Renaissance Faire in Wrightstown, NJ, did “The Three Musketeers” last month).
B) “Beatniks” were from the 1950s, and “Hippies” from the 60s. Both antedate ST:TOS—have you forgotten “The Way to Eden”?
C) Yesterday’s strip strongly indicated something atypical about this teacher, but I seem to be the only one who noticed, perhaps because I’m an actor, an opera/operetta singer, and a member of the International Wizard of Oz Club.

George Carlin knew all about the “evils” of wearing hair on one’s chin: “Lenin had a beard. Gabby Hayes had whiskers. Monty Wooly had whiskers…”
So, Santa Clause: Good or Evil? (Remember, he wears a beard and unfairly competes with the job-creating toy companies by giving kids toys. That Socialist!)

I like this music teacher guy. He’s much more interesting than Phoebe’s rather bland parents. I hope he gets a name.

Beards are not evil. If you remember, Phoebe’s dad (Phoebus?) is bearded. I submit that shaving makes one evil and grumpy, as it is painful, aftershave stings, and don’t forget about ingrown whiskers. A razor hasn’t touched my chin since ’92.
