Tbh I hope those states gets cut loose. They will see what an utter pain it is to stand alone and all the intelligent people who accept democracy for what it is will probably leave the “country” for that matter :p

the author obviously do not understand the concept of petition, you don’t expect petition to be signed by 12,500001 people of Texas. “Petition can also be the title of a legal pleading that initiates a legal case.” It starts with a petition and develops from there. for example, a referendum would be nice…

Actually, I would rather see California go, since they seem to think they dont have to follow Federal laws when it doesnt suit them……

Let them go. Let’s see how long they can live without federal tax dollars. Since they are no longer a state they would not be eligible for all the gravy that comes with the turkey.

Infrastructure would start to collapse, their taxes would skyrocket and then the chants of poor us please let us back in would begin.

This is just another example of the herd mentality of people doing things because “it sounds right” or “my butcher thought this was a great idea”.

This would not have been a problem if more people had voted for Romney and he had won, but the people didn’t elect him and now you just want to take your ball and go home.

The people of the United States spoke and they spoke loudly, get over it and wait 4 years to make a change, if you can….

I love it when people talk about “federal tax dollars” as if they have fallen from heaven.the only problems with imagining that money “from” the federal government allows us to have things we cannot pay for are:1) the federal government can’t afford these things either. it is giving away money it does not have.2) no matter which government is spending the money (federal, state or local) the source of the money remains the same.

“Government is never a source of goods or services. What it gives to the people, it must first take from them.”

it would be quite interesting to see our government made to live within its means.

Don’t really have strong feelings on this either way, but it’s certainly interesting, now that the election is over, to watch this play out. I guess I am kinda curious about, if Texas does secede, how difficult it will be to visit friends there.

Oregon has one of these petitions going, as well. I keep wondering if X state does succeed in leaving, do we have to have passports to go to and from? Are they considered a sovereign nation? I don’t think it will happen, but I am curious…

A few states already tried that back in 1861. It did not go well

IMHO, if you are not happy being a part of the US, then by all means, please leave and go to a different country. It’ll give those unemployed who remain here an opportunity to work at the job you just left, while you go and experience all the wonders and freedom (or lack thereof) around the world. Just my humble opinion… ;)

We (Texas) already tried it on our own for ten years. The fact is, it didn’t work then, and it won’t work now.
