Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for December 03, 2012
Transcript:
Trff: God willing. It should be over in minutes! Duke: Great. Trff's cronies are back... Trff: Then we take the president and impale him on the spire above the dome of the grand mosque! After that... Duke: Hey! What's going on here? Trff: Uh... nothing. Duke: You're plotting a comeback, aren't you? In my dining room!

This will all be financed by Trff’s bartending tips, Lotsa luck with that !

After he gets over his anger at not being in on the deal from the start, Duke’ll find a way to make $$ on it via Overkill’s access to taxpayer funded, off-the-books CIA “black ops” funding. Maybe even Jeff could be rescued from his mom’s clutches!

@pcshearer the difference between Fascism and communism is the degree of cooperation between government and business. In Fascism business actively abets government goals and works in common in defending national interests, whereas in communism business becomes a branch of the state politic devoting to exporting the revolution to other nations. Both rely on strong central authority figures.
I don’t think either applies to either our current or former executive office, no matter how much they’d LIKE to have or have had that kind of power. Neither is a “strong central authority figure”.

Make like a Democrat Duke. Hear no evil, see no evil, whine about the results.

Do you, by any chance have ulcers?

Back to Duke’s world.

Is this a new comic or another in the parade of reruns? I can’t tell anymore with Duke.
montessoriteacher almost 12 years ago
No, I don’t have ulcers. Sounds like you need to go to your friendly local GI doc.

If you’ve ever wondered where your tax money goes, wonder no longer! #I’m sure Trff was busy generating some extra cash, for a future takover, by fencing “hot” hashish during his bar gig!
montessoriteacher almost 12 years ago
Looks like it may be a rerun.

When the economy gets better, the GOP will have their talking heads swear that it’s just cyclical, and then return to selling tax cuts. “Ah, good old leeches Is there nothing they can’t cure?”

in the same way obama was responsible for ‘$4 gallon gas’ bush was responsible for ‘not stopping 911 attacks’
corzak almost 12 years ago
“if you want to admit that Bush tanked the economy and we still haven’t recovery fully I will agree”Both parties exaggerate the influence the president actually has over the economy. As it suits them. Politically. The “influence” the president (and congress) has over the economy consists mostly of trying to encourage or discourage various economic behaviors. Like shouting at a mule – “Move over there!” The Federal Reserve central bank, for instance, answers to neither the president nor the congress at any time.In the same way Obama wasn’t responsible for “$4 gallon gas”, Bush wasn’t responsible for the “Great Recession”.

I love it. Bain Capital has been bored lately, and looking for new markets. They’ll fund it.

I’m not sure how the politicos and financial apologists took over a comment section on a strip that had absolutely nothing to do with economics. Unless, they were extrapolating some kind of economic meaning from my original comment – which was in no way directed at today’s economic woes. I was merely observing that, given Trff’s scintillating personality, his prospects of fomenting a comeback, financed by his tips, would be ludicrous !

Could be Redray…landed on the wrong strip to continue a thread.

“General Eyechart is back!!!”……………………………………………………………….
I finally figured out, Susan, why you call the former President-for-Life General Eyechart. The name Trff Bmzklfrpz does look like an ophthalmologist eyechart. Sometimes I’m slow.

Do we really think those dudes would be plotting in English or any language Duke would understand?
Jitters almost 12 years ago
JHC! It says at the top “Comment on the strip” and all we get is people bashing each other. This is not a political forum. Jeez, go vent somewhere else.

Night-Gaunt49 said;“Actually so many corporations are so tightly intertwined with the US govt including the military that it can’t function anymore without them. Now that is dangerous.” -—————————————————
Like Ike said. But apparently nobody listened.
montessoriteacher almost 12 years ago
Of course, that Eisenhower 90% tax rate was the applied top tax rate.
montessoriteacher almost 12 years ago
The GOP are some delicate flowers these days. They can’t pay a tiny bit more in tax (3% more) on income over $250,000.Yet, they want everyone else to pay more and give up more as well.

comparing apples to apples works, but when you want to change fast food cooking to light industry, just to change the figures, and then want to include part time employment as full employment, it just messes the whole thing. Maybe they should track peoples wages and incomes from their income tax. This would show a huge amount of under employed and those that just gave up and moved in with parents or siblings.

weather or not O’s policies will help are to be seen. It takes 5-10 years for any policy to show good-bad effects. I do know that my life has always been better 4-6 years after a democrat was in the WH. Clinton’s 2 terms were very good to this country, with the exception of the military/industrial complex.Everyone wants to point to low taxes and or entitlement programs costing too much, but no one says anything about the cost of wars. The military has secret money, secret budgets, as well as one that is admitted to. While we need a strong defense, I fail to see how any of the military actions since WWII has anything to do with defense. We did not need 2 wars to get OBL, we should use surgical strikes, not war.

Hasn’t Trff learned by now…There will be no hostile takeovers on anything unless Duke is in on it!Speaking of which, they’ll need a secret agent. If only they could get in touch with the Red Rascal.

I think it’s ironic they want to impale the severed head on a mosque, since these guys don’t seem to be devout muslims.
ramonesfan almost 12 years ago
Maybe Hillary can help him. She has no problem enabling a thug like Netanyahu, so why not this guy?

“You must have reached the pinnacle of success to use a comic strip page to expound your educational understanding of world political systems …”Said the guy who comes here every day to babble incoherently about Benghazi before running away to Nancy to make “clever and intellectual” comments about Aunt Fritzi’s hooters. I’m sure the invitation from mensa is in the mail…
pawpawbear almost 12 years ago
I’m not sure I can put my finger on the spot. However, it seems that todays comments have slowly degraded to the vaguely obscene. I did like the line about “chalk and eraser fights”. Slow day for politics? Calimesa, go jump on yourself if you can find yourself.
DylanThomas3.14159 almost 12 years ago
As far as I’m concerned, John Pike, what could be occurring on Jeddidya’s king size bed, because he doesn’t want it on his carpet, is what was occurring in the post immediately preceding his — the horrible sight and sound of Calimesa Jim babbling “incoherently about Benghazi”.
What was in your mind?
