I remember our first cat Anna used to climb the tree every year and knock it down. It was sort of a task to clean up since we usually put it in a bucket of gravel rather than a traditional stand.
Never had a cat-in-tree problem here. I did quit putting popcorn strings on the trees some years ago, because the dogs love popcorn, but haven’t had a cat problem.
The funniest thing our cats have done was the year we had three young cats who had never seen a Christmas tree. We put the tree up and decorated it, and cleared away the storage stuff. We came back to find three cats sitting around the tree at intervals, all with their backs to it. Resolutely NOT looking at that thing … rotfl!
Our silver tabby, Chow, loved it when we brought home the Christmas tree. After it was set up, she’d lie on the white sheet next to the wall and seem to meditate. It was her navel of the world.

Shut the cat up until after Christmas, then let him have at all the wrapings. Our cat wants to chew on the lights wireing.

Back in the days of silver tinsel, our cat used to suck it up like spaghetti. Then, he produced lovely, shiny poopies for the holidays. RIP Sparky

We have a fake tree (mostly because of pets), and my cats find the balls of fake pine and carry them around the house like they’re mice.
