Just because you’re on the bus doesn’t mean it isn’t going to explode. And then you’d NEVER have to go to school again! (Might as well look on the bright side of being dead…)

I always thought it would be great if I woke up one morning knowing everything so that I didn’t need to go to school anymore. And then during my teen years I did know everything and they still made me go to school.

Never rode a school bus until last year of high school—always walked unless I was lucky to get a ride with Mrs. Russell, a neighbor but also a teacher at my grade school. Good ole’ Lincoln!!!

In the last panel, it looks like Calvin’s bus could say “Military School” on the side.

Remember the story about the statistician who smuggled a bomb onto his plane? He did it for safety because he figured the probability of there being two bombs on one plane was infinitesimal.

“The trouble with trying to make the right accident happen is that it won’t. That is not what `accident’ means. The accident that eventually occurred was not what he had planned at all.” – Douglas Adams, ‘Mostly Harmless’

If the bus exploded now, Calvin would have a blast.I don’t think this is an amusing subject, though.

I’m wondering if the school bus says Cleveland Elementary School, since this strip most likely takes place in Ohio.

Calvin would have loved being in the movie “Speed” – especially the part when the cop was lowered under the bus on the wagon.

A reality check, that almost no one will see. School busses, being powered by diesel fuel, do not explode. At least not without outside help. However, they do, on occasion, rarely but occasionally, burn. The fire usually starts in the front, in the engine compartment, and it takes a couple of minutes before it gets really bad, allowing enough time for all to exit the bus safely. In NY, the drivers conduct drills, and explain emergency procedures 3 times during every school year. I believe it is similar in other states. School bus drivers are required to attend two refresher courses yearly, and are shown every accident, and fire that happened in the entire country, during that year. Often new laws come out of accidents, if it is shown that there was a way to prevent it. That is why we stop at every RR crossing and open the doors.

calvin, when you look back on these days. you would be nostalgic and wish you were 6 years old. no mortgage payments, no long commutes, no student loans, no car loans, concerns about employment, office gossip, feeding your family, concerns about the kids, modern life, the daily grind.

Calvin raises his hand in school…Miss Wormwood: “Yes, Calvin, you have a question?”Calvin: “Yeah, we should get desk computers for every student in the school! It would up attendance by 100%, and learning by 200%! Come on, how about it?”“Page 35, please.”(sulking) “Not to mention, student-teacher relations!”
