Man: Good morning, sir. Mind if we come in and tell you a little bit about our religion? Rat: Sure. I'm currently searching for one. Man: Wonderful. What are you looking for? Rat: One where I can drink a lot of beer and punch the people I don't like. My spiritual search continues.

I think that’s Hi-C religion.

FYI, people, I have met a male missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints without hair; he’s diagnosed with alopecia (he was from Yakima, Washington… assigned to the Washington Tacoma Mission). Boy, am I grateful I wasn’t punched in my mission service by alcoholic anti-Mormons.

Don’t search for religion, search for God (even if you are already “His”). 2 Chronicles 7:14
Sorry, I don’t mean to evangelize. But every now and then I feel compelled to say something that just popped into my head.

Go to a Christian book store and look at a book about miracles. They’ve happened…they have happened to me.

I like Carlin’s joke about getting folks like this to leave you be. Draw a chalk outline outside your front door and scatter a punch of religous pamphlets around it. I’d probably say to add some fake blood to the whole thing.

1) Rat is a self-made rodent who worships his creator! 2) @ John Bollinger—Replace “beer” with “pint o’ Guinness Stout” & you have one of the best Irish proverbs of all time!
legaleagle48 almost 12 years ago
Actually, we’re very much Christians. The true name of our church even makes this clear: “The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-Day Saints.” Moreover, our third Article of Faith says that “We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.” How is that not being a Christian denomination?

In Heaven there is no beer. That’s why we drink it here. And when we are gone from hereOur friends will be drinking all the beer.

Rat would be interested in joining the Christian Brothers.
I kid you not, at the long closed St. George H.S./ Evanston, IL, the Old Style delivery truck would pull-up to the back of the Brothers residence twice a week. School discipline was maintained by the Brothers using large wooden paddles. And they would use them for the slightest of infractions. It was a GREAT High School. National football Champions in 1943 when they beat Mount St. Michael’s / Bronx,NY, in the championship game played in the Polo Grounds.

They aren’t Jehovah’s Witnesses. JW’s want to talk about the Bible mostly, not religion; plus they don’t dress the same; and I’ve never seen one wear a backpack.-Look more like Mormons, except no black name tag.-Either way, please be nice to them. They gratefully expend their own resources, and wouldn’t think to ask for reimbursement; their work is intimidating to them, takes great courage, and they do it for God and us, not for salvation. Usually good people with a good message.-What’s on TV?

“The beauty of religious mania is that it has the power to explain everything. Once God (or Satan) is accepted as the first cause of everything which happens in the mortal world, nothing is left to chance…logic can be happily tossed out the window.” Stephen King

In a bookbinding class I once watched two portly older women joyfully attempting to bind stacks and stacks of The Lighthouse pamphlets. Never could figure out if they’d been on the giving or receiving end.

Drink beer and smoke dope. That’s a religion that speaks to the masses.
DDS029 almost 12 years ago
I find that the most deep, unabashed, and outspoken believers in most ANY faith, are usually the biggest hypocrites, because the DO think they are better JUST because they believe. Kind of backwards, eh?
Popeyesforearm almost 12 years ago
Is there one where you can punch Tom Cruise?
coryart almost 12 years ago
@thebird55 “people on whom My name is called” What name is that? God’s name was replaced with the title “LORD” in most Bibles.
freeholder1 almost 12 years ago
You mean some Christians are as big a hypocrites as the unsaved? At least they know enough to feel shame for shameful acts. Rat’s just fine as an unsaved sloth.
bizaker almost 12 years ago
I should have capitalized the word “God” in my previous post. I imagine you will cite the book of Abraham as evidence that we do believe we were gods with a lower case g. That notion is consistent with Psalms 82:6, which I hasten to add was cited by the Savior Himself when called a blasphemer. See John 10:34

Rat could make a lot of money getting rid of solicitors for people!
sandigilbo almost 12 years ago
(It’s late, so not sure if anyone will read this) I grew up Lutheran and they DO drink beer at church functions. But, for the children was…. punch!.I have a large “No Soliciting” sign by my door. Why do people proselytizing think it’s OK to knock on my door anyway? Why do people think they can convert you by disturbing you?

I can’t believe no one has brought up the old Norse religion, where I suspect Rat would fit in rather well.
@legaleagle48 It is the whole obedience instead of grace thing that causes a lot of protestants to distance themselves from the Mormon church.
DDS029 almost 12 years ago
I prefer to think that if you treat people as you want to be treated, you’ll pretty much satisfy any god you choose to believe in. And if you’re a non-believer, you’ll still at least be considered a pretty decent person by the rest of society.
