Coming Soon 👀 At the beginning of April, you’ll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
working at a company where ideas are hoarded and guarded is not a good company to work. maybe you have to do one of those six sigma black belt management implementations.
Giving away a copy of the new Working Daze book to one random person who leaves a comment. (Yes, also giving away one to somebody who leave a comment on Facebook.)
A chance for a free book for a comment… Cool. I’m glad I’ve never worked with/for a Rita. I feel very fortunate. I did work in a government agency that was very cutthroat and the battles between departments just grew more and more bitter and political. Major power struggles. Glad to leave that. Work at a great place for some time now.
By coincidence, I just listed an “intro to management” guidebook on my Half.com store.[]To me, it was redundant given that I still have most of my textbooks from my MBA training. []I get the feeling, though, that certain parties here (like Rita) could use it to remember just what it is that they’re supposed to be doing.
I don’t have a snappy comment about todays comic, but i sure would like to win that book.Signed or not, it would make a nice addition to the humor section of my humble library.
@vwdualnomandDilbert has an entire dialog on the six sigma black belt program and its self destructive nature. And “where ideas are hoarded and guarded is not a good company to work” I agree totally – been there- am there, but that is how the middle managers build their private little kingdoms with budgets and perks, by forced isolation.
Dear JohnIf Rita recognises a thought as original then your whole premise for this comic falls apart – because that would require her to actually be paying attention … see at least I was paying attention :-)
Are ya sure Rita didn’t get confused in the spelling and it was an oregano thought? Maybe thinking about spaghetti for lunch? And certainly Dana should show more surprise about the original thought concept.
Rita was at a board meeting, and she heard what the other higher ups were saying. When something different unexpectedly popped into her head she became suddenly aware of it happening..
My former boss used to make a point of telling us “I’ll do your thinking for you”. Problem is, he didn’t know how. Glad to be retired. (And now have plenty of time to read books. :) )

WooHoo! Free book…………………………….um, why are you giving it away? Is it autographed by Rita, maybe?

Dana, quick! Make that call upstairs!
No, wait… sometimes the devil you know is better than the unfamiliar devil.
Rita is predictable and manageable, at least!

Working Daze just might be the Dilbert of the 21st century. I love it.

Isn’t it odd for Rita to phrase it that way? Most Bosses like this (qv. Pointy-Haired Boss) don’t know that they’re clueless.

Dana’s always “perky”/ Like it!
daburghboy66 about 12 years ago
She’s proud, and a little dizzy. Might need to nap it off.

Actually, I see the inspiration for Dana every day.

yes a free book that’s great. I wonder how the other managers would know of the original thought Rita had.

I gotta say, I work for a government agency, and it is so much worse…you are not even allowed to have an original thought!

Dana is probably thinking “Nothing good can come from this!”

She was probably the only one who ordered a muffin instead of a bagel.

I was fortunate that I worked for a company that actually paid me an award when I suggested changing a branch name.

This is normal though. I’ve worked in places that have you sign over any original ideas about certain products.

OK. Here it is: A COMMENT. Sorry I just couldn’t resist!
Steveh16 about 12 years ago
I hope the time to comment is not over. I wasn’t able to read the comics yesterday. =(
