Irving: High School reunion! Cathy: Invite someone else! It happens to people very summer, but still manages to catch them by surprise...They anticipate it..Fantasize about it...Prepare for it...But no one's ever really ready for the emotional impact of those three little words...

This was one of the strips at the time in which you were able to compute Irvings age. You took the reunion number year and added 18 years to it. Anyone know how much older Irving is than Cathy? I know she goes to a HS reunion of hers, later. This is a timely strip because of all the HS stuff going on right now. My 50th HS reunion is in 2 years. I had a boring HS career, so I doubt if I will go to it.

I might go to my high school reunion now because itâs been many years and I think most of us have grown up. I went to my 5 year reunion and it was terrible â everyone was the same (superficial, bratty). Ugh!Good morning, Cathy clan!LOL, Sally! I guess everytime you go home to visit, you could call that a high school reunion? ;-)

Theyâre not an annual event here in Great Britain. If they happen at all itâs only because somebody from your year has had the idea â perhaps itâs a special anniversary or something â and that person has done the organisation and invited everybody they know how to trace.
Iâve only ever been invited to one, about a year ago. I wasnât all that keen, but I did go, and it was more interesting than I had feared, to be honest. Everyone else was too old, too short or too tall, but I would have recognised almost everyone.
Would I go to another one? Hmmm . . . probably not. Weâve all moved on since our school days, all gone our separate ways, and we have little in common now. But I do wish Iâd had the nerve to take my camera out and take a couple of photos. Too late now!

I went to my 10-year (in 1997) and 20-year (in 2007) high school reunions and found that not much had changed since then with ANY of those people. MY friends from back then didnât attend either one of those lame gatherings and the ones that WERE there still seemed just as snobby and cliquey as they ALWAYS were and I no more had anything in common with them at that point than I did way back then. They had two informal reunion gatherings last year for our 25th that only people âin the knowâ knew anything about (and, as you can probably guess, I wasnât one of them that knew!) and that I didnât find out about until around six months after they were over with. Itâs not like I really care all that much as I wouldnât have gone to either one of them anyhow because I really didnât enjoy the first two I attended. But still, a notification of the gatherings would have been nice so that I could have at least made the decision on my own not to go instead of having OTHER people make that decision for me!!!!! :-(
Â
As for my husband, I think Iâd very much enjoy going to any of his high school or college reunions when theyâre planned but he refuses to attend ANY of them either!
Â
Hi, rgcviper! Hope youâre enjoying your trip so far!
Â
Hello and Happy Monday, fellow âCathyâ friends. Hope everyone had a really great Fatherâs Day weekend and are having a nice day today too.

B/t/w: in case youâre wondering . . . even though I didnât really enjoy the 10-year reunion, I went to the 20-year reunion hoping that maybe people on the cusp of 40 would be a little more grown-up and less snobby than when they were still in their 20âs. Nope!!! They werenât!!! Thatâs why I had planned on no longer attending any more reunions but I guess if youâre not invited to them to begin with, then it REALLY doesnât matter one way or the other!

I was too embarrassed to go to my ten year reunion in â75 because I had not achieved any real goals. And I was not very popular because I had only gone to that high school for the 11th and 12th grades. Not a very good year to start a new school. By the time the 20th came around I was happier with my life, job, married ,family. But I had by then moved out of town and was not in contact with many of my classmates. OH, BOO HOO!!!

Iâve had a lot of fun at reunions over the years â my 50th is looming in 3 years. I wasnât part of the âin-crowd,â and my friends from that time never come, but Iâve had a lot of laughs with people I didnât really pay much attention to during high school. One interesting thing is that a lot of the people who come to the reunion were in my grade school classrooms, so we really go way back.

My high school has had two massive reunions â the 50th anniversary of the opening of the school and another one a few year ago just before they tore the old school down. Because it was not a class or year reunion there were thousands of people there â hard to find anyone you actually went to school with unless you made plans ahead of time. At the last reunion, I actually spent most of my time talking with my fatherâs friends who attended the reunion â and Dad never did go to school there. Still enjoyed it though. I, too, was never in the âin crowdâ so did not really know too many of the people in my classes. Celebration day today â finished my last chemo treatment this afternoon. Now I can look forward to recovering some strength and endurance. On the down side, we were supposed to be touring Edinburgh Castle today â oh well, already booked the tour for next year so I know I will get there eventually.

p.s. I LOVED reading everyoneâs experiences about their high school reunions!! Sounds like many had similar ones! Heck, we could have all been in the same high school, it sounds like. :-)
