Cathy: If I'd made albums as life went along, all these pictures of Irving and Alex would be in them......But I'm doing the albums now. Do I put Irving and Alex in them and enshrine our failed relationships as an honest part of my past? ...Or do I dump them and obliterate them from the record? Mom: DUMP THEM! PRETEND THEY NEVER HAPPENED! DUMP THEM ALL!! Cathy: Very sentimental... Mom: How many moments of personal power does the mother of a grown-up get?

Cathy, you are Definitely going to regret this…dumping Alex’s pictures is OK, but not Irving’s, for Pete’s sake!!! You might be risking your future relationship with him! (I am wondering if this strip came before Cathy’s recent vacation with Irving…) ;)

Plus, I don’t understand why you have to obliterate evidence of past relationships, no matter what your opinion of them. It’s always fun (usually years after the relationship ended) to look back and remember. My MIL threw out all of my husband’s mementos of his ex-girlfriends before he moved to the US to be with me. I guess I was grateful, but it wouldn’t have bothered me either way.Hello Cathy friends! Happy Friday!

I have lots of pics of former friends and loves alike. I wouldn’t let any of them go. That was my life, at one time!

I agree with everyone so far. I have kept all pictures I have taken (at least the negatives) and it is fun to go back and remember earlier times – even with the ex’s. Would not trade any of those earlier adventures for what I have now so there cannot be any harm in remembering.

I still have a few pictures of some of my old ex-boyfriends laying around somewhere. I rarely ever look at them unless I come across them while I’m looking for something else but whenever I do, they always make me smile just a little bit. Not because I still have any feelings left for my old exes, of course, but because they take me back to some of the really fun times I had way back in high school. My husband has never felt “threatened” in any way by me keeping those old photos and therefore has never asked me to get rid of them — just as I’ve never asked him to get rid of his old [photos] either. They just represent a very small part of our separate histories before we met each other that has helped make the both of us who we are today.

I have an album of my first wedding — it’s a part of my life, why wouldn’t I keep it? My husband doesn’t feel threatened by any of it just as I don’t feel threatened by pics of his ex.Also why should Cathy’s Mom have power over her as a grown-up?
