Consumerism (advertising) and Hollywood have numbed us to the horrors all around us today. We have sold our souls for the all mighty buck, the evil desires of the heart and fleeting power. How sad for this and future generations. We are even now starting to reap what we have sown.

I agree with Mousie… both are pretty bad. I still both sometimes, but probably not as often as I should. I do have my own mind and I am horrified by a lot, but if we are horrified by all the bad things around us, we would be depressed all the time. There are days that I can’t read the news because it is so terrible. If there is something I can do about it, I will try, but mostly there is nothing I can do about things around the world. I believe that most of us have hearts and feelings, but our problem is that we have changed from a “we” society to a “me” society and many are too selfish or lazy to change it back. That is what makes me sad the most.Hello Cathy friends! Thank you for being a kind corner of the crazy world! :-)

Good morning, Cathy philosophers! I am loving this dialogue (uh…group of monologues?)

@lightenup I agree it seems overwhelming to look at what this world has become. There is something that each of us can do, though – just don’t be like them. It may seem small, but if everybody does it the change will be huge.

The world has always been crazy in some way or another. I try to stick to my quiet little corner as much as possible but I am going to school to become a social worker. Hopefully I can help change a part of the world for the better.

Happy Tuesday Cathy friends! Why are we counting down to New Year’s Eve? :-)

I’ll roll my eyes at the extremeness, but she does have a point.

lightenup — I totally agree about the change from “we” to “me” and wish that something would happen to make that change back, but I’m not real hopeful.

QuietStorm27 — good for you!! — I’ve been a social worker for 40 years (and also taught it for awhile) and every once in awhile, I have been able to make a positive change in someone’s life. It always feels good when I can help.

The obscene amounts of money for what might be considered “gift” items in the comic and the fact that people will actually put out that much money are just an illustration of consumerism run amok in our culture. Sad!!

@O-Kay – Yes, I do try to do what i can to make the world a better place and be a good person. I am also trying to raise my kids the same way. I think it is a shame when people say they don’t want children because either the world is horrible or children are horrible. Well, then do your part to add a few good ones.@QuietStorm & linda.coop – Bless you both for being social workers! I’m guessing it’s a thankless, hard, overwhelming job, but I’m sure you’re making a positive impact on people’s lives. I hope it comes back to you both a thousandfold.
