Irving: I got the ring a long time ago. It was just never the right time to give it to you. Cathy and Mom: You've had it for a long time?? Irving: I'd get it out on every gift occasion... consider giving it... and put it back. Cathy and Mom: You mean it's... Irving: I even took it on our trip last summer... thought about it... and tossed it back in my gym bag. Cathy and Mom: It's... it's... it's a "gift closet" engagement ring?? That's so romantic!! Irving: That was romantic? Dad: For the next few weeks, you can pretty much say anything.

And how is that romantic? I like the idea of waiting for the right time and place, but since his proposal wasn’t exactly done with a romantic mind, I’m not sure that was his intent. I guess that terrible proposal really ruined any idea of romanticism for me with these two. I can only think that Cathy and her mom are rolling their eyes rather than being excited over Irving being “romantic”.
Hello Cathy friends! QuietStorm, I totally agree with what you said yesterday! And GretchensMom, LOVED your Simpsons face palm! So appropriate and perfect!! :-)

I think they were both being defensive about the proposal because they both assumed that the other wouldn’t be interested.
But they were both wrong . . . and they both got a wonderful surprise!

I can see why the timing just never seemed “right” for Irving. Anytime he considered proposing to Cathy, she no doubt went off the deep end about something completely trivial and ridiculous, which then had him thinking: “I can’t marry this woman. I’d be absolutely crazy to want to spend the rest of my life with a Looney Tunes whack-a-doodle like her!!!!!” ;-)
Hi, rgcviper & lightenup!: Glad you both enjoyed the Homer Simpson image I posted yesterday. Sometimes when it comes to Cathy and Irving, a simple “D’oh!” and face palm done separately just won’t do . . . they absolutely have to be combined together in order to somewhat adequately explain my feelings about them. I think they’re both a little nuts; therefore, they’re a match made in heaven for each other!!!!! ;-)
Hello and Happy Thursday, fellow Cathy fans. Hope everyone had a nice day today and are keeping warm!

Hi hendelca! Good to hear from you too – I haven’t really been away, just haven’t been commenting for a while. Sorry!
I’m glad you enjoyed your visit here. May and June are usually my favourite months – last summer it got terribly hot here, compared to our usual weather, and it wiped me out completely, I’m afraid.
But then we went straight from that into a long, very cold, very wet winter – so now I’m really quite ready for a bit of Springtime.
I am enjoying these replays of Cathy and Irving’s story. I missed them first time around – I think they were married, or nearly so, by the time I met them. So although I know the ending, the beginnings are all new to me.

A “gift closet” engagement ring — what could be more romantic? If she hadn’t tossed it out with the gym bag, it might have stayed there forever.

Sigh …
And, what the heck … I’ll toss in an [eye-roll] for good measure.
HI, MOM. Greetings, “Cathy” Clan.
