Blech. I enjoy turkey and the trimmings so much that after the family gathering on Thursday I always make a second Thanksgiving dinner on Friday for just my husband and me so that there are leftovers.

I’m old enough to remember when some people thought using the microwave meant you didn’t care enough to cook for real. One of the first things I ever bought when I got out on my own was a microwave oven. Yup, I don’t care enough to cook for real.

Nooo… I am fine with using the microwave to do some tasks like melt butter, warm up a dish that is cold, etc., but to warm up a pre-made Thanksgiving dinner, nope. Maybe if I was alone, I would do that, but they have 3 people there who can cook (and eat).

Hello Cathy friends! Happy Monday! Have a great day, all!

Lots of towns give out free dinners to seniors that day, and deliver them them, too. My BIL was one who delivered many of the dinners for a local restaurant on Thanksgiving Day.

Part of the whole eating experience is the anticipation as the wonderful aroma of baking/broiling meat permeates the house. Cooking turkey in a microwave eliminates that step (tried it when microwaves were first on the market). However, if you are alone and cooking a whole turkey (substitute whatever meat you are preparing) does not make sense then buying pre-cooked is a good idea. Kudos to those organizations that provide whole meals to seniors and others who are isolated even in ‘normal’ times. The local Kinsman club delivered ‘Meals on Wheels’ until their membership fell below the sustainable point. Too bad, heard lots of stories from the drivers about how excited the recipient of the meal was to be able to talk to someone even for a short while. Maybe our ancestors who had their grandparents as part of the family were onto something. I applaud those who have ‘granny suites’ for their elderly relatives – provides the support but still allows privacy for both families.

For Cathy’s family, nope. If everybody chipped in then cooking a celebration meal would be easy. Wait, Cathy, her mother, and mother-in-law as a team? Order from the deli!

    Have a great Monday everyone.

NEVER try to cook a turkey in the microwave. I learned that lesson the hard way one year!

The convenience factor is tempting, and there’s something to be said for it. However, Thanksgiving is one time I really look forward to a big home-cooked meal—and hopefully avoiding the dreaded post-food coma …

I actually rather enjoy cooking Thanksgiving dinner…we have a couple of things like dressing and sweet potato/apple casserole that we don’t eat the rest of the year. It’s kinda fun to fix…we start with the pies on Tuesday, dressing on Wednesday, turkey and veggies on Thursday. It all goes together really easily.
